This character is the Fool from Robin Hobb's marvelous series of novels : the Farseer Trilogy - and the sequels.
I love this character, but then again, most of the persons whom I spoke with about him did like him. I mean, who can read those books and appreciate them and not love him?
Anyway, when I drew him for the second time, this time in his days as the Fool at King Shrewd's court, I thought - God I have to make a watercolour out of this.
There is no background for now, and I do not know if I will risk it. I like the way he barely stand out of the picture. And I had issues - and still have - about what to paint as a background.
I know that a plain orange background could make the deal (not a bright orange heh) but I do not like orange that much. Explaining my dilemma to some friends of mine, I was told I could use a maroon bordering on purple too. Knowing myself as I do, it would have ended up in a very dark carmine like flowing blood. But I do not want to mess it up and the whole prospect of painting heavy curtains behind the character and blue torches on the wall, enticing as it may be, freaks me out.
Anyway, I don't know I will leave it as this (hence the WIP) or work on it later - perhaps when the blister on my thumb will have healed... it is... bothersome to hold a brush sometimes you know... and yes, I guess no one told me to paint with a blister but hell I wanted to right then and I follow my impulses most of the time.
Where was I ... Well I kinda like it as it is now, despite the fact - or precisely because of the fact - that there is nearly no contrast, etc.
Ah and as for "Le.Mat", I thought about using this as a sort of a "tarot" card or something. It seemed fun...
